Dalrymple collects on NDSU football bet

BISMARCK–Gov. Jack Dalrymple received a special delivery at his office this afternoon when Texas Gov. Rick Perry finally admitted defeat and paid up on a bet.

Dalrymple won a box of Texas grapefruit from his Texas counterpart after North Dakota State University defeated Sam Houston State in the football championship earlier this month.

Dalrymple joked about how long it took Perry to pay up and that he hoped Perry had to go to a lot of trouble to send it.

“At least it did say on the outside of the box, in very clear letters it said, ‘I’m covering my bet,'” Dalrymple said.

Dalrymple, who placed a Bison football helmet next to the box of fruit, sampled the sweet grapefruit but said the Bison victory in Texas was “the sweetest moment of all.”

Dalrymple wagered a case of North Dakota-made Dreamfields low-carb pasta against the grapefruit.
