Happy birthday, North Dakota

BISMARCK—North Dakotans can break out the confetti and balloons tomorrow to help celebrate the state’s 122nd birthday.

On Nov. 2 1889, North Dakota was admitted to the Union as the 39th state when President Benjamin Harrison signed the Proclamation of Admission.

Gov. Jack Dalrymple wished North Dakota a happy birthday and encouraged residents to commemorate the day.

“This anniversary is a great occasion to celebrate our rich history and honor the generations of North Dakotans that built this state and paved the way for the growth and opportunity we enjoy today,” Dalrymple said in a statement. “The ideals and values rooted in our proud heritage will continue to shape North Dakota’s future and inspire tomorrow’s leaders.”

The state’s twin, South Dakota, is also celebrating its birthday tomorrow.
