Interesting legislative meeting Thursday

Tomorrow’s Judicial Process meeting here in Bismarck will cover a range of hot-button issues.

The meeting begins at 9 a.m. CT in the State Capitol. Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem will report on unlawful drug use and abuse and drug control and enforcement efforts in this state. There will also be testimony about the appointment of legal counsel for cases involving the commitment of sexually dangerous individuals.

As I wrote last weekend, there will be testimony at 10:45 a.m. CT regarding a bill draft to establish a family and children’s ombudsman program. It looks like there will be quite a bit of interest in this topic.

At 1 p.m., Jim Fleming, the acting director of the state’s Child Support Enforcement Division, will provide information regarding arrears and developments in child support activities, including child support guidelines, child care expenses, interstate cases and outreach to the state bar.
