Schmidt elected president of National Association of State Treasurers

From a news release:

North Dakota State Treasurer Kelly Schmidt was elected unanimously by her peers to serve as president of the National Association of State Treasurers for a one-year term beginning Jan. 1.

Schmidt was elected to the post in August during the organization’s annual conference.

“Schmidt is a conscientious, competent leader who has made significant contributions to NAST. There has never been a job too big for her to handle,” said president and New Mexico Treasurer James Lewis said in a statement. “As our NAST president in 2011, she will bring the professionalism she displays as North Dakota state treasurer to the NAST organization, to be our energetic and capable leader.”

Schmidt will host the 2011 annual conference in Bismarck.

The organization develops standards of excellence for state treasurers regarding ethical conduct, policy guidelines and accountability. It also develops model legislation and guidelines and monitors pending federal legislation and regulatory guidelines that affect state treasury departments.
