North Dakota Deputy Secretary of State Jim Silrum was selected to be chairman of the Standards Board of the United States Election Assistance Commission.
Secretary of State Al Jaeger said it’s a significant honor for the state that Silrum was chosen.
"On a national level, North Dakota is held in very high regard by our peers for our administration of elections and the excellent partnership we have with county election officials," Jaeger said in an e-mail.
The responsibilities of the Standards Board are essential for the administration of elections nationwide, he said.
Each state has two representatives on the Standards Board. The local election official representative from North Dakota is Cass County Auditor Mike Montplaisir.
The next meeting of the Standards Board is July 27 in Washington D.C.
